The Access to Higher Education Diploma (Osteopathic Sciences & Health Care) programme is a one-year further education course leading to a nationally recognised award.
Who is the course for?
The Access course is designed specifically for students who:
When does the course run?
The course runs over one year, from September to June, and is flexibly structured to allow students to remain in employment whilst studying. Classes take place on Saturdays and some Friday evenings with the focus on learning required for the successful study of osteopathy at undergraduate degree level.
What will I be studying?
There is a strong emphasis on the biological and physical sciences, as well as an introduction to sociology and psychology. One unit looks specifically at life as a professional osteopath. The programme also develops students' abilities to manage their own learning, acquire and synthesise information from written, spoken and numerical data and to communicate effectively.
Who validates the qualification?
The programme is validated by the National Open College Network (NOCN) so successful students gain a nationally recognised award which is an acceptable entry qualification to colleges and universities throughout the UK. The BSO Access course ensures that students gain a sound basis for further study.

What can I do next?
Students who have successfully completed our Access programme with the required number of credits will normally progress straight into one of the M.Ost courses (full time or part time), which prepare students for a professional career as an osteopath and primary health care practitioner.
Manmohan Birdi had always been in interested in a career in osteopathy, but had been working in very different fields – IT and retail. He didn't have an A level in Biology, so he took the BSO's one-year Access course.
"The Access course really helped me get to grips with what the degree course was really about," explains Manmohan, who then went straight into studying his BSO osteopathy degree full time.
