Emergency First Aid for Osteopaths – 12 May 2012

  • This course offers the minimum level of first aid certification recommended by the Health and Safety Executive, reflecting recent legislative changes requiring a minimum of six hours contact time during training. It is essential to meet the health and safety requirements of your practice and as a clinician, it is expected that you would know what to do in a medical emergency.
  • With evidence continuing to show how quickly your skills deteriorate, you should be aware of the medical, legal and professional implications of getting it wrong. It is a common complaint that traditional first aid training does not address the needs of the healthcare professional – in this course, delegates are encouraged to re-evaluate their emergent skills and knowledge and discuss their own experiences and concerns amongst their peers, based on actual scenarios and case studies.

Nutrition in Practice – 5 & 6 July 2012

  • In a course specially designed for osteopaths, chiropractors, physiotherapists and other manual therapists, Dr Lisa Ryan leads a 2 day workshop in nutrition. The days can be taken individually or in one weekend.
  • Day 1 is an Introduction to Nutrition. At the end of the day, delegates will be confident in their ability to assess the nutrition needs of their patients and give advice and guidance about macronutrients and micronutrients to help their recovery. The focus of the day is upon giving relevant information for osteopaths, chiropractors, physiotherapists and manual therapists that will be easy to implement in practice.
  • Day 2 is Applied Nutrition. This workshop can be stand-alone for delegates who have already studied nutrition and want to build on this. However, it builds from the previous day's course in learning how to apply fundamental nutrition guidelines to different situations. At the end of this day, delegates will be able to confidently assess body composition and have a good understanding of the applied role of nutrition in specific circumstances—for example for patients with osteoporosis, CVD, diabetes and cancer.
