An enthusiast for osteopathy, Alan Diamond who subsequently became one of the British School of Osteopathy’s most energetic, committed and consistently generous supporters over the past two decades has been awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours. Alan was involved from 1992 on our Student Bursary Committee and his championship as Chairman of the School’s 2000 appeal had a dramatic and transformational effect on the fortunes of Europe’s largest and longest-established School of Osteopathy, enabling us to secure and develop new premises in 1997; simultaneously helping accelerate the regeneration of Southwark, the UK’s 12th most deprived borough. The lecture theatres and treatment rooms he has helped fund remind students, patients and faculty members daily of Alan’s exceptional commitment to the School.
“Alan’s integrity, intelligence and steadfastness have been of immeasurable help to the BSO over the many years that we have been privileged to know him”. Charles Hunt, Principal
The University of Bedfordshire who validate the BSO’s degrees, awarded Alan an honorary doctorate which was presented to him by the British School of Osteopathy’s Patron, HRH The Princess Royal in October 2009.
Alan first became aware about the School through a family friend, Colin Winer who was a student here. Alan and Shelia have contributed generously again towards the School’s new clinic and have chosen to commemorate their support via the naming of two treatment rooms, one in their own names, and one in memory of Alan’s father Sydney, who also supported the School. Alan became a member of the Stock Exchange in 1963, and although retired is a lifetime MCSI. Alan enabled the School to hold a reception at the London Stock Exchange for the 2000 appeal, where Lord Archer acted as auctioneer. Alan is also a chairman of a fundraising committee for Sidney Sussex College and served on Girton College Cambridge Investment and Appeal Committees from 1990-1996. Alan is Chairman of the Alan and Sheila Diamond Charitable Trust.
